ST. JOHN'S, Antigua — The Family and Social Services Division within the Ministry of Social and Urban Transformation is hosting a week-long Child Rights Ambassadors workshop, running Monday, July 13 through Friday, July 17, bringing together young Antiguans and Barbudans to explore photography as a vehicle for storytelling and rights advocacy.
The workshop is being delivered in partnership with UNICEF Eastern Caribbean and marks the fourth of its kind held across the region.
Participants are receiving training in the fundamentals of photography — including how to build an image around a single clear message, composition, working with light, and capturing authentic detail. From Wednesday, they move into the community to document the child rights issues that matter most to them.
The week concludes Friday with participants presenting their strongest work, followed by a closing ceremony.
Patrick Knight, Communication Specialist at UNICEF Eastern Caribbean, underscored the significance of the programme. "The programme gives children a creative outlet to show how their rights are being upheld or challenged in their own communities," he said, "grounded in the Convention on the Rights of the Child's guarantee of a child's right to expression."
