Foreign Affairs Minister E.P. Chet Greene has declared Antigua and Barbuda fully prepared to host the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), following a nationwide simulation exercise designed to test the country's readiness. According to Antigua News Room, the drill evaluated critical areas including security, emergency response, logistics and public communication.
Greene, who was in Peru on official business at the time of the exercise, said he monitored Friday's simulation through live updates and reports from officials on the ground. Despite his absence, the minister said he remained closely engaged with developments throughout the day.
Describing the exercise as "rigorous, necessary and successful," Greene said the simulation demonstrated the country's capacity to effectively manage a major international event of CHOGM's scale.
The minister extended thanks to the public for their patience during temporary disruptions caused by the drill. He also praised law enforcement officers, emergency responders, CHOGM personnel and disaster management teams for their professionalism and coordination. Greene further commended the media for keeping the public informed throughout the exercise.
Greene said the outcome of the simulation confirmed that Antigua and Barbuda possesses the systems, personnel and institutional capacity required to successfully receive Commonwealth leaders in 2026.
Antigua and Barbuda is scheduled to host CHOGM 2026, which will bring together heads of government from across the Commonwealth to deliberate on regional and global issues.
