St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda — The CHOGM National Security Planning Committee (NSPC) has declared Exercise STRONGHOLD a resounding success, extending its gratitude to the public for their patience and cooperation during the three-day national security exercise held July 8 to 10.
Exercise STRONGHOLD formed a critical component of Antigua and Barbuda's preparations for hosting the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) later this year. The exercise was designed to test and strengthen national security readiness, emergency response capabilities, inter-agency coordination, communication systems, and overall operational effectiveness in managing a major international event.
Over the three days, security and emergency response personnel conducted a series of coordinated operations across several strategic locations on the island. These included convoy movements, traffic management, venue security, emergency response scenarios, and other operational activities. The exercises provided an opportunity to assess existing plans, identify areas for improvement, and validate the country's preparedness to deliver a safe and secure environment for visiting Heads of Government, delegates, and other participants.
The NSPC reported that all goals and objectives were successfully achieved from every operational perspective. The Committee highlighted the high level of professionalism, discipline, and commitment demonstrated by all participating agencies, noting that seamless collaboration among the nation's security forces, emergency responders, and supporting agencies reflected the strength of their growing partnerships.
The business community, several government ministries, and departments also received recognition for their cooperation, flexibility, and willingness to work alongside planning teams — contributions the Committee described as playing a significant role in the exercise's successful execution.
Members of the media were commended for their responsible coverage and timely dissemination of information before and during the exercise, with the Committee noting that their partnership helped keep the public informed and contributed to the smooth implementation of operational activities.
The NSPC reserved special thanks for the motoring public, residents, and businesses affected by temporary road closures, traffic diversions, and restricted access, describing their civic-mindedness as instrumental in ensuring the exercise was conducted safely and efficiently.
As preparations for CHOGM 2026 continue, the Committee indicated that additional exercises and readiness activities are planned in the months ahead. It called on the public, private sector, government ministries, and all stakeholders to maintain their support through that process.
"Together, through partnership, planning, and preparedness, Antigua and Barbuda remains firmly committed to successfully hosting CHOGM 2026 and showcasing the nation's ability to deliver a secure, safe, and world-class international event," the Committee stated.
