A 24-year-old Vincentian national has been fined $8,000 after pleading guilty to four charges stemming from a collision that seriously injured national cyclist Tahje Browne, according to Antigua News Room.
Kishroy Harry admitted to dangerous driving, driving without the owner's consent, driving without a valid driver's licence, and driving without insurance. The charges arose from an incident on June 20 in which his vehicle struck Browne on Sir Sydney Walling Highway.
Harry was arrested the following day at V.C. Bird International Airport as he attempted to board a flight to St. Vincent. The court also noted that he fled the scene immediately after the collision.
Chief Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel imposed fines of $2,000 on each of the four charges. In handing down the sentence, the court acknowledged Harry's remorse and his guilty plea, but weighed those factors against the severity of Browne's injuries and his attempt to leave the jurisdiction before facing justice.
