The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) has advised residents to expect possible delays in household waste collection services from July 8 to July 10, due to security measures tied to the CHOGM 2026 STRONGHOLD Security Exercise.
According to Antigua News Room, the Authority issued a statement on July 7 warning that temporary road closures, restricted access, security checkpoints, and traffic diversions may disrupt normal collection schedules across the three-day period.
Despite the anticipated disruptions, the NSWMA confirmed that collection crews will continue operating in all areas where access permits. The Authority added that every effort will be made to complete scheduled collections as quickly as conditions allow.
The NSWMA apologised for any inconvenience caused and thanked residents for their patience and cooperation as Antigua and Barbuda conducts the national security exercise in preparation for hosting the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
Residents whose waste is not collected on their scheduled day are encouraged to leave their bins at the curb. The Authority stated that crews will return to service affected communities as soon as roads become accessible.
Anyone wishing to report a missed collection or seeking further information is asked to contact the NSWMA hotline at 562-1347.
