Minister of Foreign Affairs and CHOGM Task Force Chairman Hon. E.P. Chet Greene has called on citizens and residents to cooperate with authorities as Antigua and Barbuda begins a two-day Security Simulation Exercise in preparation for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2026, according to Antigua News Room.
In a public statement issued on the occasion of the exercise, Minister Greene described the drill as more than a routine procedure, framing it as a demonstration of the nation's commitment to hosting a safe and successful gathering of Commonwealth leaders in November.
"This exercise is not merely a drill; it is a testament to our unwavering commitment to hosting a safe and successful gathering of Commonwealth leaders in November," Greene stated.
The minister extended praise to the law enforcement and security personnel leading the operation, commending their dedication, sacrifice, and planning. He urged them to maintain the highest standards of professionalism throughout the exercise.
Greene also acknowledged that the exercise may cause disruptions for members of the public, including traffic delays and restricted access to certain areas. He apologized in advance for any inconveniences and asked residents to bear with the temporary adjustments.
"Proper and effective planning is the only path to ensuring the safety of our international guests and our own people and the overall success of the event," he said.
The minister described the public's cooperation as an expression of an "all-of-country" approach that signals to the international community Antigua and Barbuda's collective readiness to host the high-profile summit.
Greene pledged that he, the government, and the CHOGM Task Force would remain fully accessible to the public throughout the preparation process. "We are all in this together and through our shared resolve, we will deliver a CHOGM that makes Antigua and Barbuda proud," he added.
