Prime Minister Gaston Browne has announced that the government's road improvement programme for Barbuda has received the green light, clearing the path for a series of major infrastructure projects on the sister island.
According to Antigua News Room, Browne made the announcement during his appearance on the Browne and Browne Show on Saturday, confirming that the road works are part of a wider development agenda for Barbuda.
"We've gotten the green light for the roads in Barbuda," Browne said.
The prime minister revealed that construction of a new cargo port is expected to begin within the next 60 days, with equipment set to be mobilised to Barbuda shortly. The port development forms a key component of the broader infrastructure package the government is pursuing for the island.
Browne also offered an encouraging update on progress at the Barbuda airport, stating that expansion works on the terminal building are advancing steadily.
"The airport is moving well. The terminal building is moving well," he said.
On housing, Browne confirmed that the government is continuing its residential construction programme on Barbuda, which includes homes being built with grant funding from China.
The prime minister said the combined package of road upgrades, expanded port facilities, airport improvements and new housing is designed to support Barbuda's long-term economic development while delivering tangible benefits for residents and businesses on the island. He described the projects as a demonstration of the government's sustained commitment to investing in Barbuda's growth and positioning the island for greater commercial and residential activity.
