According to Antigua News Room, the Prime Minister conveyed his sentiments in a formal letter addressed directly to President Trump, describing the upcoming milestone as one of global significance — one celebrated not only across the United States but by freedom-loving people around the world.
Prime Minister Browne reflected on the enduring legacy of the Declaration of Independence, noting that the principles proclaimed in Philadelphia in 1776 — particularly the affirmation of the unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness — remain among the most influential ideals in human history.
"The American founders did not merely claim independence for themselves; they proclaimed a universal principle that became a beacon for oppressed peoples everywhere," the Prime Minister wrote.
Browne also drew a direct connection between those founding ideals and Antigua and Barbuda's own path to nationhood. He noted that when Antigua and Barbuda achieved independence on November 1, 1981, the nation embraced the same tradition of self-determination and the universal rights championed by American patriots more than two centuries prior.
The Prime Minister further commended President Trump for his leadership in organizing commemorative activities befitting the historic anniversary, recognizing the President's efforts in mobilizing the resources of the U.S. federal government to ensure the occasion is observed with the grandeur and dignity the landmark deserves.
