Vulnerable school-aged children across Antigua and Barbuda are set to benefit from a new vision care initiative launched by the Kiwanis Club of Antigua AR Fusion. Dubbed Bright Eyes, the project was officially launched last weekend and has already provided several students with comprehensive eye examinations and prescription eyeglasses.
Bright Eyes builds on the club's existing Bright Minds initiative and aims to improve children's vision to help them achieve greater success in the classroom and beyond. The project is being implemented in partnership with Dr. Salem Zreibi of Progressive Vision and in collaboration with the Ministry of Education's Student Support Unit.
Through the initiative, the Kiwanis Club of Antigua AR Fusion and Dr. Zreibi have committed to providing comprehensive eye examinations and prescription eyewear — valued at up to EC$600 per student — for twenty vulnerable students. The total project budget is EC$12,000.
Dr. Zreibi said Progressive Vision was honoured to partner with the club on its commitment to improving the health and educational outcomes of vulnerable children through access to quality vision care. He noted that reading, writing, copying notes from the board, recognising colours, and participating in sports all depend on good eyesight.
Dr. Zreibi added that Bright Eyes goes beyond basic vision screenings by providing children with comprehensive eye examinations and ensuring they receive their prescription glasses as quickly as possible.
The Kiwanis Club recognises that poor eyesight often goes undetected, creating barriers that limit children's ability to learn, thrive, and reach their full potential. Club President Oslyn said the initiative brings a tremendous sense of accomplishment.
"Our collaboration with Progressive Vision has allowed us to address a critical need and provide children with the opportunity to see more clearly and build a brighter future," she said. "That is why our members are so passionate about what we do. We are helping to create the positive change we want to see in our community."
The Kiwanis Club of Antigua AR Fusion expressed appreciation to Dr. Zreibi and Progressive Vision for their generosity and partnership. The Bright Eyes project is expected to make a lasting impact by ensuring that vulnerable students have the vision care they need to thrive both academically and socially.
