A high-level delegation from the International Labour Organization (ILO) began its first official mission to Haiti on June 30, marking a significant step in the organisation's renewed engagement with the country under new regional leadership. According to Antigua News Room, responsibility for Haiti was recently transferred to the ILO Decent Work Team and Office for the Caribbean, headquartered in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

The mission is led by Joni Musabayana, Director of the ILO Decent Work Team and Office for the Caribbean, and includes Senior Programming Officer Ingerlyn Caines-Francis. The visit represents a pivotal moment in the ILO's re-engagement with Haiti's tripartite partners — comprising the Government, employers' organisations, and workers' organisations — following months of meetings, consultations, and collaborative work to establish shared priorities.

The delegation's arrival comes just weeks after the signing of the ILO Country Programme for Haiti 2026–2027 in May, a framework that outlines the Caribbean Office's commitments to supporting the country. The mission signals the office's intention to move swiftly, maintain close ties with its partners on the ground, and advance the implementation of agreed priorities through practical technical cooperation.
