The Government of Antigua and Barbuda has expanded its affordable housing programme, with Cabinet approving new rent-to-own arrangements for residential developments in Bolans and Barbuda, according to Antigua News Room.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne briefed Cabinet on plans for the Booby Alley Housing Project, which will be supported by a dedicated management structure responsible for community maintenance, sewage systems, and solar energy infrastructure.
The Bolans and Barbuda housing projects are being funded with support from the Government of the People's Republic of China, representing a combined investment of approximately US$20 million. Both developments will be delivered under the Government's Social Housing Programme through rent-to-own arrangements.
The initiative is designed to help families transition into home ownership. For applicants who are unable to qualify for loans from commercial banks, mortgage financing will be made available through the National Housing Programme.
The Government stated that the programme forms part of its broader strategy to expand access to affordable, resilient, and sustainable housing across Antigua and Barbuda.
