Member of Parliament for St. Peter, Hon. Rawdon Turner, has issued a firm demand that Jumby Bay resort immediately cease what he describes as the illegal dumping of waste in and around the Parham community. According to Antigua.news, Turner made the call amid repeated complaints from residents who say the practice has gone on without consequence.
Turner, who also serves as Minister of Social and Urban Transformation, described the alleged dumping as "disgraceful, disrespectful, and completely unacceptable," arguing that Parham residents deserve far better treatment from a luxury establishment that publicly promotes environmental stewardship.
"You cannot promote luxury and environmental stewardship while treating the people of Parham and our surroundings with such contempt," Turner said. "This abuse of our community must end."
The MP stressed that Jumby Bay, like all businesses operating in Antigua and Barbuda, is legally required to comply with the country's environmental laws. He noted that Cooks Landfill remains the only approved waste disposal site in Antigua and Barbuda, and he urged the resort to halt any dumping in or around Parham without delay.
Turner further called on the company to remove waste already discarded in the area and to demonstrate genuine respect for the community it operates near.
"We are not your garbage bin, and we will not tolerate this shameful practice any longer," he said.
