A magnitude 3.9 earthquake struck the northeastern Caribbean on Tuesday morning, according to the Seismic Research Centre (SRC) at the University of the West Indies. As reported by Antigua News Room, the tremor was recorded at 10:37am local time (14:37 UTC) at a depth of 10 kilometres.

The epicentre was located at latitude 18.58 north and longitude 62.13 west — approximately 157 kilometres northeast of Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis; 166 kilometres north-northwest of St John's, Antigua and Barbuda; and 198 kilometres north of Brades, Montserrat.

The SRC noted that the earthquake's location and magnitude were generated automatically by computer algorithms and remain preliminary. The agency added that the data is subject to revision following further analysis by its seismologists.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. It also remained unclear whether the tremor was felt on nearby islands.
