India has launched a major humanitarian mission to earthquake-ravaged Venezuela, dispatching military aircraft carrying relief supplies, medical equipment and rescue personnel as the South American nation confronts one of its deadliest natural disasters in recent memory.
According to Antigua.news, India's Honorary Consul to Antigua and Barbuda, Vijay Tewani, confirmed that the Government of India activated 'Operation Amistad' in direct response to the twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela last Wednesday.
Tewani said two large Indian military aircraft have been deployed carrying tonnes of emergency relief supplies, a fully equipped field hospital and specialised search and rescue teams to support ongoing recovery operations in the affected region.
The assistance comes as Venezuela continues to grapple with the aftermath of two powerful earthquakes, measuring magnitude 7.2 and 7.5, which have claimed the lives of more than 1,400 people and left thousands injured and displaced.
Tewani said India's swift response reflects the country's broader commitment to international humanitarian assistance. "This proves that India stands with the world in times of crisis," he said.
International rescue teams from multiple countries have joined thousands of Venezuelan emergency workers in search and recovery operations. Humanitarian agencies continue to deliver food, medical supplies and emergency shelter to affected communities across the disaster zone.
Operation Amistad forms part of a growing international relief effort as Venezuela begins the long process of recovery and rebuilding in the wake of the devastating earthquakes.
