Advocates and community members united last weekend in a show of solidarity near Antigua's closed cancer center, staging a cycling demonstration to press authorities for its reopening. According to Antigua Observer, the event — dubbed 'Ride for a Cause' — served as a platform for urgent public advocacy surrounding access to cancer care on the island.
The initiative was led by the Community Charitable Ministry (CCM) in collaboration with the Antigua and Barbuda Cancer Support Community (ABCSC) and the CCM Youth. Together, the organisations mobilised participants to draw attention to what they describe as a critical gap in healthcare services left by the center's closure.
The demonstration underscored growing concern among residents and patient advocates over the continued unavailability of the facility, which cancer patients and their families depend on for treatment and support services.
As reported by Antigua Observer, the coalition used the event to send a clear message to decision-makers that the community is united in its demand for the center to be restored to operation without further delay.
