Two teenage boys were hospitalised after masked gunmen opened fire on South Street late Saturday night, in the latest shooting incident to strike the community, according to Antigua.news.
Police report that the shooting occurred shortly after 9:10 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, near a tattoo shop on South Street.
Preliminary investigations indicate the two teenagers were standing along the roadway when they observed two unknown men approaching from Goodwin Street. Both suspects were dressed in dark clothing with hooded tops concealing their faces. One of the men then opened fire, discharging several rounds in the direction of the teenagers.
The gunmen fled on foot immediately after the shooting and had disappeared before police arrived on the scene.
A 16-year-old from South Street and a 17-year-old from Villa sustained gunshot wounds in the attack. Both were transported to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, where doctors confirmed their injuries are not life-threatening. The two teenagers remain hospitalised under observation and are continuing to receive medical treatment.
Investigators are working to establish a motive and determine whether the victims were specifically targeted. No arrests have been made. Police say they are actively pursuing several leads.
