Former United Progressive Party leader Harold Lovell has paid tribute to Denzil O'Brien Cummins, Antigua and Barbuda's only male centenarian, expressing deep sadness at his passing. According to Antigua News Room, Lovell described Cummins as a man whose life reflected faith, resilience, and service to his community.
Lovell recalled visiting Cummins on his 101st birthday last September, saying it was a privilege to celebrate a life that spanned more than a century.
The former opposition leader also noted that Cummins had been honoured during Centenarian Week just days before his death, calling it a fitting tribute to "a remarkable son of Sea View Farm and our nation."
"I will always cherish the warmth of his smile and the opportunity to spend time with him," Lovell said.
Lovell extended his condolences to Cummins' family, friends, and the Sea View Farm community. He urged the nation to honour the centenarian's legacy by embracing the values of perseverance, humility, and community that he exemplified throughout his life.
"May the soul of Mr. Denzil O'Brien Cummins rest in eternal peace," Lovell said.
