A preliminary magnitude 4.2 earthquake struck east of Antigua and Barbuda early Friday morning, according to Antigua News Room, citing data from the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre (UWI SRC).
The tremor was recorded at 7:19 a.m. local time on June 26 at a depth of 10 kilometres. The epicentre was pinpointed at coordinates 16.65°N, 59.30°W — approximately 287 kilometres east-southeast of St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda.
The epicentre also placed the earthquake roughly 252 kilometres east-northeast of Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe, and 276 kilometres northeast of Roseau, Dominica.
The UWI SRC noted that the location is preliminary and was automatically calculated by computer algorithms. The data remains subject to revision pending review and evaluation by the Centre's seismic analysts.
