Police are investigating three separate incidents of breaking and entering reported across Antigua within the span of a single week, with businesses in Fort Road, Belmont, and All Saints all targeted by criminal activity. According to Antigua.news, the incidents occurred between June 16 and June 19, and investigators have already obtained useful information in at least one of the cases.
One incident involved the theft of approximately EC$1,500 from an office at a commercial establishment on Fort Road. The money had been left inside a drawer for less than an hour on the morning of June 19 while a staff member stepped away to an adjoining supermarket. Upon her return, between 9:00 a.m. and 9:50 a.m., the cash had vanished. Investigators have since interviewed several employees, and sources suggest the information gathered during those interviews could prove significant to the case.
In a separate incident, burglars targeted a building under construction in Belmont, stealing a power drill. The theft is believed to have taken place between midday on June 18 and 7:00 a.m. the following morning. The culprit forced open a deadbolt lock on a metal door before entering the premises and taking the tool, which had been left on a table inside. A subsequent search of the surrounding area failed to recover the drill, and its value has not yet been determined.
A third incident saw a shop in All Saints broken into sometime between the evening of June 16 and the morning of June 17. The intruder gained entry by prying open a wooden shutter window and stole a quantity of blunts along with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages before exiting through a wooden door.
Police continue to investigate all three incidents and are appealing to anyone with information to contact their nearest police station.
