A Bolans man has admitted to a savage assault on his sister in which he doused her with boiling water, leaving her with severe injuries and nearly a year of recovery.

Clayton Jeffery pleaded guilty on Monday to a charge of wounding with intent when he appeared before the court, according to Antigua News Room. Sentencing has been scheduled for July 20.

The charge stems from an incident on October 29, 2023, in which Jeffery chased his sister along a road in Bolans while carrying a kettle of boiling water. Prosecutors told the court that he caught up to her and poured the scalding liquid onto her back, then continued the attack by kicking and punching her after she fell to the ground.

Bystanders intervened and the woman was transported to hospital, where she was treated for third-degree burns, a fractured left leg, and a broken right hand. She remained hospitalised for three weeks and subsequently spent approximately eight months confined to bed.

Court records indicate there had been no dispute between the siblings prior to the attack. Jeffery later told police he had become enraged after hearing neighbours repeat rumours he believed his sister had spread about him.

Sentencing is scheduled for July 20.
