National cyclist Tajae Browne is recovering in hospital after a vehicle struck him in a hit-and-run incident on the Sir Sydney Walling Highway on Saturday morning, according to Antigua.news.
Security camera footage captured the moment Browne, riding westbound along the highway, was struck by a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction that crossed into his lane. The collision knocked him from his bicycle.
Emergency responders transported Browne to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, where he remains under observation.
Eustace "Manning" Matthew, President of the Antigua and Barbuda Cycling Federation, confirmed to ABS News that Browne's injuries are not life-threatening. Matthew noted, however, that the national cyclist remains hospitalised and is continuing to receive medical evaluation and treatment.
Eyewitnesses reported that the driver stopped briefly following the collision and checked on Browne before leaving the scene.
Police are expected to review the available surveillance footage and interview witnesses as they work to identify the driver responsible. Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
