A Big Creek farmer is appealing to the public for help after two horses were stolen from her property in an apparent overnight break-in, according to Antigua.news.
Farm owner Chantelle Winter said she discovered that thieves had cut through a fence to gain access to the property before making off with two horses. She also reported that a trap had been set on the premises.
The theft has heightened concern for the animals' welfare, as it is not the first time horses have gone missing from the farm. Winter said that on a previous occasion when stolen horses were recovered, the animals had been subjected to abuse. They were returned beaten, with portions of their hair cut off, and bearing injuries that left lasting scars.
The two missing horses are described as a red chestnut male gelding standing approximately 16 hands high, and a chestnut female with a blonde mane and tail standing approximately 14 hands high.
Winter said her greatest concern is bringing the horses home safely and preventing them from suffering further harm. She is urging residents and farmers in surrounding communities to remain vigilant and report any relevant information.
Anyone who has seen the horses, witnessed suspicious activity, or has information regarding their whereabouts is urged to contact Chantelle Winter at 268-720-1171 or the nearest police station. The owner is also asking the public to share the appeal as widely as possible to help locate the animals quickly.
