Antigua and Barbuda is maintaining some of the lowest fuel prices in the Caribbean, as the government continues to absorb rising global energy costs on behalf of local consumers.
According to Antigua Observer, Director General of Communications in the Prime Minister's Office, Maurice Merchant, confirmed the administration is heavily subsidizing fuel prices to protect residents from the impact of international market fluctuations.
Merchant made the disclosure at Thursday's post-Cabinet press briefing, where he presented regional price data to illustrate the extent of the government's intervention and how Antigua and Barbuda's fuel costs compare favourably against neighbouring countries.
