An elderly man is recovering from serious injuries after three men allegedly forced their way into his Paradise View residence and assaulted him in a violent home invasion on Thursday afternoon, according to Antigua News Room.
The attackers smashed through the front door of the property shortly after midday on June 18 before carrying out what witnesses described as a vicious assault on the victim.
Ambulance personnel later transported the injured man to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, where he remains hospitalised. The full extent of his injuries has not been disclosed.
The incident has renewed concerns about violent home invasions and their impact on victims, families, and surrounding communities. Residents have expressed alarm over the attack, noting that such crimes can leave lasting emotional and psychological scars long after physical injuries have healed.
As reported by Antigua News Room, the assault has also sparked fears of a return to the wave of violent home invasions that plagued Antigua and Barbuda more than a decade ago, when armed criminals targeted a number of residents in their homes.
Police are investigating the incident and have not yet announced any arrests. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is urged to contact the Criminal Investigations Department or Crime Stoppers.
