Newly sworn-in Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle used his first address to the Lower House on Tuesday to demand parliamentary impartiality, setting the stage for a pointed exchange with House Speaker Osbert Richard Frederick, according to Antigua Observer.

The confrontation unfolded during the June 16th sitting, which was broadcast live on state media. Pringle called on the Speaker to chair proceedings without bias and to allow for meaningful debate on the floor of the House.

As reported by Antigua Observer, the remarks prompted a direct response from Speaker Frederick, who addressed Pringle's challenge from the floor. The public nature of the exchange, carried live on state television, brought immediate visibility to the tensions between the newly configured Opposition and the sitting Chair of the House.

Pringle, who was recently sworn in as Opposition Leader, signalled from the outset that he intends to press for robust parliamentary procedure and open debate during his tenure in the role.
