A 54-year-old man described in court as a barber — and identified in official reports as a pastor — has been remanded in custody on multiple drug-related charges following a seizure at VC Bird International Airport.
According to Antigua News Room, Dean Robert Gould appeared before the court on Monday, where prosecutors successfully opposed bail. The court determined that Gould posed a flight risk, citing his failure to establish sufficient ties to Antigua and Barbuda.
Gould holds a United States passport and was unable to provide proof of a reported Cedar Grove address. He is scheduled to return to court on 29 June with documentation confirming his place of residence.
Gould faces multiple charges, including drug trafficking, importation of cannabis, possession of cannabis, possession with intent to transfer, and being concerned in the supply of cannabis.
The charges stem from an incident on 13 June, when officers at VC Bird International Airport searched two duffle bags after a police K9 unit detected the presence of drugs. The search uncovered 60 packages of suspected cannabis concealed beneath clothing and footwear.
The seized substance weighed approximately 59.5 pounds and carries an estimated street value of EC$357,000.
