Census Office Deploys More Enumerators as 2025 Population Count Resumes

The Census Office has intensified efforts to complete the 2025 Population and Housing Census, deploying a second cohort of enumerators to begin fieldwork across parts of Antigua this week, according to Antigua.news.

Starting Monday, residents in and around the Greenbay Primary School community can expect visits from census enumerators conducting household and business interviews as part of the nationwide exercise.

The expanded deployment follows a temporary suspension of census activities during the recent General Elections. Officials say the addition of more field staff marks another significant step toward achieving a complete and accurate count of the country's population and housing stock.

Conducted once every decade, the Population and Housing Census is among the government's most important data-gathering exercises. Information collected guides national development policy and informs resource allocation across sectors including healthcare, education, housing, employment, transportation, and infrastructure.

Census officials are urging the public to cooperate fully with enumerators and provide accurate information during interviews. Officials have also reassured residents that all data collected is protected under the Statistics Act and will be handled with strict confidentiality.

To help residents identify legitimate census workers, enumerators will be wearing official census vests and carrying Census-issued identification cards. They will also be equipped with tablets, census bags, and authorization letters from the Census Office.

Alongside field operations, officials are ramping up public awareness efforts through appearances on radio, television, and other media platforms in the coming week. These engagements aim to answer public questions, explain the census process, and provide progress updates.

The Census Office thanked the public for its patience and continued cooperation, noting that the success of the census depends heavily on the participation of every household and business.
