A 54-year-old pastor from Cedar Grove is assisting police with investigations after nearly 60 pounds of suspected cannabis was intercepted at V.C. Bird International Airport on Saturday.
According to Antigua News Room, Dean Robert Gould arrived aboard American Airlines Flight AA2579 on June 13 when officers from the police K9 unit flagged two duffle bags belonging to him for further inspection.
A subsequent search of the bags uncovered 60 packages containing a green vegetable substance believed to be cannabis. The packages were allegedly concealed beneath clothing and footwear inside the luggage.
The seized substance weighed approximately 59.5 pounds and carries an estimated street value of EC$357,000.
Investigators also discovered packages bearing the name Jahmai Gould alongside a Bronx, New York address. Authorities said they are examining the significance of that finding as part of their ongoing inquiries.
Gould, a United States citizen born in Antigua and Barbuda, was taken into custody for questioning. He is expected to be formally charged on Monday.
Police investigations are continuing.
