Women in Antigua and Barbuda are being encouraged to take advantage of a free Human Papillomavirus (HPV) screening programme at the Cobbs Cross Clinic later this month, as health officials push forward efforts to promote early detection and prevention of cervical cancer.
The Ministry of Health, Wellness, Environment and Civil Service Affairs announced that the HPV Screening Day will take place on Saturday, 20 June 2026, from 9:00am to 2:00pm at the clinic.
The initiative targets women between the ages of 30 and 65 — particularly those who have never undergone an HPV test or whose last screening was more than five years ago. Women who have not had surgery to remove the entire uterus are also encouraged to attend.
HPV screening plays a critical role in identifying cellular changes that could lead to cervical cancer before symptoms develop. Early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes and can prevent the disease from progressing to more advanced stages.
In addition to screening services, HPV vaccinations will be available for girls and boys aged nine to 26 years. The Ministry describes vaccination as one of the most effective tools for reducing the risk of HPV-related cancers and other associated diseases.
The campaign forms part of broader public health efforts to increase awareness of cervical cancer prevention and expand access to screening and vaccination services nationwide.
Officials are urging all eligible women and young people to make use of the free services, emphasising that preventive healthcare saves lives and contributes to healthier communities.
