Prime Minister Gaston Browne has announced plans for a proposed "Peace Beach" development at Barnacle Point, a project he says would combine coastal protection, marine conservation, environmental education and public recreation.

According to Antigua News Room, Browne described the site as the "first ever created beach with living reef marine habitat creation" in a social media post, adding that it would also serve as a tool for coastal protection and public education.

Concept drawings shared by the Prime Minister depict a landscaped beachfront featuring native vegetation, including coconut trees and West Indian almond trees, alongside picnic areas, public beach huts, educational signage and a pavilion structure.

The proposal also includes the installation of artificial reef modules and a marine education snorkel trail, both designed to support marine life and provide learning opportunities for visitors to the site.

The concept plans indicate the project would incorporate signage outlining what are described as the "Peace Principles" — among them non-violence, mutual respect, cooperation, dialogue, tolerance, inclusion, compassion and shared responsibility.

Additional elements featured in the designs include a viewing deck, shaded seating areas, marine conservation displays and a breakwater extension intended to strengthen coastal resilience.

Browne stated that the initiative aims to blend environmental restoration with community education and recreation, while promoting values associated with peace and cooperation.
