An 11-year-old boy was beaten by a group of young men after he refused to surrender his bicycle during an attempted robbery in Golden Grove Extension, according to Antigua.news.
The incident reportedly occurred around 5 p.m. on June 5, when four young men approached the child and attempted to seize his bicycle. When the boy resisted and held on to the bicycle, the attackers struck him repeatedly about the body with a glass bottle.
Despite sustaining the assault, the boy managed to keep hold of his bicycle. The suspects fled the scene without taking it.
A relative of the child subsequently reported the matter to police. It remains unclear whether the boy required medical treatment for his injuries. No arrests have been reported, and police are continuing their investigations into the alleged attack.
The incident has raised concerns among residents about the safety of children in the community and the level of violence being employed in crimes targeting young victims.
