A Bendals Village man has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison following his guilty plea on drug trafficking charges connected to a significant cannabis seizure at Deep Water Harbour.

According to Antigua News Room, Justice John Spencer handed down the sentence against Damar Stapleton in the High Court on Friday. Stapleton had pleaded guilty on May 12 to trafficking cannabis.

The conviction stems from a joint police and Customs operation conducted on March 8, 2024, during which officers discovered 41 pounds of cannabis concealed inside two boxes at the port. Authorities valued the seized drugs at approximately $246,000.

Stapleton also faces separate charges before the court related to an alleged importation of 20 pounds of cannabis through Deep Water Harbour on March 13, 2024. Those charges include possession of cannabis, possession with intent to transfer, and participation in the supply of the drug.
