Antiguan-born Carolyn Providence has achieved a significant academic milestone, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in Nutritional Sciences from Rutgers University in New Jersey, USA, on May 17, 2026. According to Antigua News Room, Dr. Providence completed her doctoral studies specializing in hunger and food policy.
A product of Antigua and Barbuda's educational system, Dr. Providence's academic journey began locally. She attended Miss Francis Preschool, TOR Memorial, the Antigua Girls' High School, and the Antigua State College before pursuing her advanced studies in the United States.
A proud daughter of the soil, Dr. Providence traces her roots to several Antiguan communities. She is a descendant of the Mason family from St. John's, the Richard family from Seaview Farm, the Lewis family from Potters Village, and the Providence family from All Saints, with additional lineage in St. Vincent. She grew up in Sutherlands and worshipped at the Good Shepherd Anglican Church.
With her doctorate now in hand, Dr. Providence is set to apply her expertise in food, nutrition, and public health policy on both a regional and international stage. She will continue working to develop policies in these areas for the United States of America, Antigua and Barbuda, and the wider Caribbean.
