The Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission is calling on community members to volunteer as parade marshals for this year's Carnival celebrations. According to Antigua News Room, applications are open and must be submitted before the June 15 deadline.
The role centres on maintaining safety, order and the smooth flow of activities during Carnival events. Parade marshals will be responsible for crowd control, managing parade movement, assisting participants and relaying incident reports to event organisers. Volunteers must also be prepared to provide emergency support, including reporting incidents and helping to create safe access for first responders when required.
The commission emphasised that marshals will play a key role in keeping spectators within designated boundaries, preventing overcrowding and ensuring that bands maintain proper spacing along parade routes.
All volunteers will be expected to adhere to operational guidelines, which include remaining visible and alert at all times, communicating clearly with the public and staying within their assigned zones unless directed otherwise by supervisors.
A strict code of conduct applies to the programme. The use of alcohol or drugs while on duty is prohibited, and marshals are required to treat all participants and spectators with professionalism and respect. Any security-related concerns must be escalated promptly to supervisors or law enforcement officials.
Successful applicants will receive mandatory training, official identification and apparel, meals and refreshments, and hands-on experience in event management and public safety. The commission is also urging prospective volunteers to prioritise their own health and wellbeing by staying hydrated, dressing appropriately and reporting any concerns without delay.
Interested individuals should submit completed application forms directly to the Festivals Commission before the June 15 deadline.
