Tourism Minister Hon. H. Charles Fernandez, joined by the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, has paid tribute to Theodore "Ted" Isaac, CM, one of the nation's most distinguished tourism pioneers, following his passing.
For more than four decades, Isaac stood at the forefront of Antigua and Barbuda's tourism industry, helping to shape the sector into one of the country's leading economic pillars. His passing marks the end of an era and the loss of a man whose influence, leadership, and mentorship touched virtually every aspect of tourism in Antigua and Barbuda.
Isaac holds a unique place in the industry's history as the first Chairman of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority Board of Directors and the first indigenous Antiguan to serve as Chairman of the Antigua and Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association. Throughout his distinguished career, he held senior leadership positions at some of the country's most iconic properties, including the Royal Antiguan Hotel, Jumby Bay Resort, and most notably Jolly Beach Resort, where he served as one of the longest-serving and most impactful General Managers in the resort's history.
His contributions extended well beyond hotel operations. Isaac served on numerous tourism and national boards, including the Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority, and was a respected voice in tourism policy, destination development, and industry standards. His service earned him the national honour of Commander of the Most Illustrious Order of Merit (CM) and, in 2022, the prestigious ABHTA Lifetime Achievement Award.
Isaac was also a passionate advocate for Antigua and Barbuda's cultural heritage. A devoted supporter of the arts and particularly the steelpan artform, he worked to ensure that cultural identity remained a cornerstone of the tourism experience. Through his leadership within the hospitality sector, he provided meaningful support for the Gemonites' "Moods of Pan," strengthening the connection between tourism and the creative industries.
Minister Fernandez reflected on Isaac's legacy in a statement: "Theodore 'Ted' Isaac was a towering figure in Antigua and Barbuda's tourism industry. He was a visionary leader, a mentor to generations of tourism professionals, and a proud son of the soil who dedicated his life to advancing our country's hospitality sector. His legacy is not measured only by the hotels he managed or the organizations he led, but by the countless lives he impacted, the careers he helped shape, and the standards of excellence he championed."

He was equally passionate about preserving our culture and ensuring that the arts, especially pan music, remained an integral part of the Antiguan and Barbudan tourism experience. The Ministry of Tourism and the Tourism Authority extended heartfelt condolences to Isaac's family, friends, former colleagues, and the wider tourism community. May the soul of Theodore "Ted" Isaac, CM, rest in eternal peace.
