The Ministry of Information Communication Technologies (ICTs), Utilities and Energy is participating in a two-day workshop in Belize, hosted by the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UN ECLAC), aimed at strengthening digital resilience across the region.
Desiree Zachariah, Manager of the Business and Data Analytics Unit within the Ministry's eGovernment Department, is representing Antigua and Barbuda at the June 2nd to 3rd event. "Antigua and Barbuda recognizes the essential need for robust digital structures, and this workshop is an excellent opportunity for us to collaborate with stakeholders across the region to explore the implementation of data embassies," Zachariah said.
Data embassies are secure data storage facilities designed to help countries reduce the risk of data loss and service delivery disruptions during national crises. They operate within a legislative framework that encompasses hosting agreements, cybersecurity investments, and network connectivity solutions.
The workshop will assess the immediate, medium, and long-term benefits of data embassies, while also examining the potential for public-private partnerships to advance the initiative. A central goal is fostering collaboration among governments, businesses, and key stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach to digital resilience throughout the Caribbean.
