A police motorcycle officer remains hospitalised following a traffic collision on Sir Sydney Walling Highway on Monday afternoon, according to Antigua.news.
The injured officer has been identified as 23-year-old Te'field Charles, who was on duty at the time of the incident. He sustained a fractured right ankle along with bruising to various parts of his body, and his condition has been described as stable.
Police reports indicate the collision occurred at approximately 4:29 p.m. on June 1 near the TURF area. A white Honda CR-V, driven by a 52-year-old woman from Clarkes Hill, was travelling south along an unnamed by-road when it reached the junction with Sir Sydney Walling Highway. Authorities allege the driver proceeded through the intersection and struck the police motorcycle, which was travelling west along the highway.
Emergency Medical Services personnel responded promptly and transported Officer Charles to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre for treatment. The police motorcycle sustained extensive damage in the collision, while the Honda CR-V received only minor damage.
Authorities are urging all motorists to exercise caution when approaching intersections and entering major roadways. Drivers are being reminded to obey traffic signs and confirm it is safe to proceed before entering a junction, in an effort to reduce road accidents and protect all road users.
