A Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda motorcycle officer remains hospitalised at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre after a traffic accident on Sir Sydney Walling Highway on Monday afternoon.
The injured officer, identified as 23-year-old Te'field Charles, was on duty at the time of the incident.
The Royal Police Force's Office of Strategic Communications (STRATCOM) released details of the collision, stating that at approximately 4:29 p.m. on June 1, a white Honda CR-V motor jeep driven by a 52-year-old woman of Clarkes Hill was travelling south on an unnamed by-road near TURF. Upon reaching the junction with Sir Sydney Walling Highway, the driver proceeded through the intersection, and the vehicle struck the police motorcycle, which was travelling westward along the highway.
Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the scene and transported Officer Charles to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre. He sustained a fractured right ankle and bruises to his body. His condition is described as stable.
The police motorcycle suffered extensive damage in the collision, while the Honda CR-V sustained only minor damage.
The Royal Police Force is reminding motorists to exercise due care and attention on the nation's roads. Drivers are urged to obey traffic signs and signals, approach intersections with caution, and ensure it is safe to proceed before entering major roadways.
