Governor General Sir Rodney Williams boarded the Indian Naval Ship Sudarshini on Thursday in what officials are describing as a significant moment in the diplomatic relationship between Antigua and Barbuda and India. According to Antigua.news, the courtesy call took place during the vessel's official visit to the country.
Commander N. Ravikant and members of the ship's delegation welcomed Sir Rodney aboard. Representatives of the diplomatic corps and specially invited guests were also present for the occasion.
The visit was facilitated by Honorary Consul to India Vijay Tewani, whose ongoing efforts have been instrumental in strengthening ties between the two nations.
Discussions during the engagement centred on the longstanding friendship between Antigua and Barbuda and India, while reaffirming a shared commitment to deeper cooperation across areas including maritime engagement, cultural exchange, and international partnership.
Officials say the presence of the INS Sudarshini in local waters forms part of a broader programme of global outreach by India and serves as a visible symbol of goodwill between India and Caribbean states.
The visit further underscores Antigua and Barbuda's growing standing in international diplomacy and its continued engagement with strategic partners beyond the region.
