A driver narrowly avoided a serious head-on collision on Airport Road on Thursday after being filmed executing a reckless overtaking manoeuvre in the wrong lane, according to Antigua.news.
Video footage circulating on social media shows an orange Honda Fit RS, bearing licence plate A72625, travelling eastbound and overtaking three vehicles by entering the centre lane — a lane designated exclusively for westbound traffic.
As the vehicle proceeded against the flow of traffic, oncoming motorists were forced to react swiftly. In the footage, a white van is seen swerving sharply to avoid a direct impact as the two vehicles came dangerously close to colliding.
Other drivers in the vicinity slowed their vehicles as the incident unfolded, raising alarm among road users in the area.
The video has since sparked widespread criticism online, with many members of the public calling for stronger enforcement of traffic laws and greater driver awareness to prevent similar incidents on the nation's roads.
