The Government of Antigua and Barbuda has announced its support for a major expansion of the national surveillance programme, aimed at bolstering public safety and improving crime prevention and detection capabilities across the country.
According to Antigua.news, Minister responsible for Information and Communication Technologies Melford Nicholas presented the update, confirming that the Royal Police Force has already begun installing security cameras at strategic locations nationwide.
The rollout will proceed in phases over the coming months, with more than 200 cameras expected to be deployed across the country. Authorities have identified key areas to ensure broad coverage and enhanced monitoring of public spaces.
Officials say the initiative is designed to modernise the use of technology in policing and national security operations. Beyond crime prevention, the system is expected to support criminal investigations, assist with traffic management, and improve coordination during emergency responses.
Cabinet welcomed the development and reaffirmed the importance of equipping law enforcement with modern tools to better safeguard communities and protect property.
The project forms part of a broader national strategy to upgrade security infrastructure and strengthen public confidence in safety measures throughout Antigua and Barbuda.
