An elderly couple sustained serious injuries during a violent home invasion in Liberta in the early hours of the morning, according to Antigua.news.
Two masked men reportedly broke into the couple's home while they slept and launched a brutal attack. The elderly woman was shot in the thigh, while her husband was severely beaten about the head and body. Investigators believe several of the man's wounds may have been inflicted with a knife or another sharp object.
Both victims were transported to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, where they remain hospitalised in serious condition.
Authorities believe robbery was the likely motive behind the attack, though it remains unclear whether the intruders successfully stole any items before fleeing the scene.
