A Barbados-based language training institution has commended Antigua and Barbuda for its growing commitment to Spanish language development, calling the initiative a critical step toward strengthening regional integration and economic competitiveness.
According to Antigua.news, the World Skills Language Institute (WSLI) said the government's emphasis on expanding Spanish language education reflects a forward-thinking approach as Caribbean nations continue to deepen ties through tourism, trade, business, and cultural exchange.
In a statement issued this week, the institute said multilingual communication is becoming increasingly essential for professional advancement and regional cooperation across the Caribbean and Latin America.
Martin Boyce, Director of Training at WSLI, said language preparedness must now be treated as a strategic necessity rather than simply an educational objective.
"No hay integración sin comunicación — there is no integration without communication," Boyce stated.
Boyce noted that stronger communication skills can help improve tourism services, workforce readiness, professional mobility, and collaboration between Caribbean and Latin American countries.
WSLI said initiatives aimed at strengthening Spanish language training can better prepare both students and working professionals for broader international engagement and emerging economic opportunities. The institute also highlighted the importance of practical communication skills in the hospitality, business, and customer service sectors — areas considered critical to Caribbean economic growth.
The institute expressed support for regional efforts that encourage educational advancement, cultural understanding, and multilingual preparedness, adding that sustained dialogue around language development can strengthen the Caribbean's ability to compete on the global stage.
The remarks come as Antigua and Barbuda moves forward with plans to expand Spanish language instruction within the national education system as part of a broader regional integration strategy.
