Residents across St. Peter joined their Member of Parliament over the weekend for a large-scale community cleanup initiative aimed at improving the constituency's environment and fostering community pride.
According to Antigua.news, Minister of Social and Urban Transformation Rawdon Turner led the effort, known as the Lightfoot Bulk Waste Community Cleanup, which brought together residents, volunteers, and community members to remove bulky waste, clear overgrown areas, and improve the overall appearance of several sections of the constituency.
Turner described the initiative as part of a broader effort to establish a new style of leadership in St. Peter — one grounded in action, visibility, and direct engagement with constituents.
"We are building a different style of leadership in St. Peter, one focused on action, change, and service that people can actually see and feel," Turner said. "The work continues."
The minister confirmed that several additional communities within St. Peter have already been identified for similar cleanup exercises as part of an ongoing constituency transformation programme.
Residents who participated welcomed the drive, noting that beyond the physical improvements, the exercise helped strengthen community spirit and encouraged greater cooperation among neighbours.
Turner stressed that achieving cleaner and safer communities requires sustained collaboration between residents and their leadership, and characterised the weekend's activity as the beginning of larger efforts planned for the constituency.
He also thanked the volunteers and community members who turned out, calling their participation critical to the programme's success.
With additional cleanup campaigns expected across St. Peter in the coming weeks, Turner indicated that the constituency remains committed to delivering positive, visible change.
