Minister of Social and Urban Transformation Rawdon Turner has called for inclusion and accessibility to remain central to the development of Antigua and Barbuda's National Theatre of Performing Arts, declaring that every citizen deserves the opportunity to experience the arts with dignity, comfort and equal access.
According to Antigua.news, Turner recently toured the facility alongside Bernard Warner, President of the Disability Association, as part of ongoing efforts to ensure the national project adequately serves differently-abled persons.
During the walkthrough, discussions centred on several key accessibility features, including wheelchair access to the main stage, improved mobility throughout the main hall, and dedicated viewing platforms designed to better accommodate patrons with disabilities.
Turner described the feedback and guidance received during the visit as invaluable. He noted that while the adjustments under consideration may appear modest, they could make a meaningful difference in ensuring the theatre truly belongs to all citizens.
The Minister said the initiative reflects the Government's broader commitment to inclusion and equal access, particularly within public spaces intended to serve the entire nation.
