Health Minister Michael Joseph has initiated a strategic review of Antigua and Barbuda's national healthcare system following high-level discussions with the executive management team of the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre.

According to Antigua.news, the meeting formed part of the minister's broader assessment of healthcare operations as the Government moves to identify priorities, strengthen services, and improve patient care delivery across the twin-island nation.

Among those participating in the discussions were Permanent Secretary Stacey Gregg-Paige, Medical Director Dr. Shivon Belle-Jarvis, Director of Administration Danley Phillip, Director of Operations Marlon Jones, Financial Controller Aldin Crump, Quality Assurance Manager Kathleen Brathwaite, Acting Human Resources Manager Olson Browne, and Head of Nursing Jacqueline Jno Baptiste.

The Ministry stated that discussions centred on the current state of the hospital, operational challenges, staffing and administrative needs, and areas requiring both immediate intervention and long-term planning.

Officials also examined strategies aimed at improving efficiency, strengthening internal systems, and enhancing the quality and timeliness of healthcare services delivered to patients.

Minister Joseph described the engagement as part of a wider effort to gain a comprehensive understanding of the healthcare sector as the ministry prepares to implement reforms designed to modernise healthcare delivery.

The discussions were characterised as frank and solution-oriented, with timelines and key priorities identified for further review and implementation.

The minister reaffirmed the Government's commitment to working closely with hospital leadership and staff to ensure meaningful improvements are achieved within the nation's healthcare system.
