The Government of Antigua and Barbuda is moving to reinstall infrared thermal camera systems at V.C. Bird International Airport as part of strengthened public health surveillance measures.
Health Minister Michael Joseph announced the decision at a press conference on Friday, citing concerns surrounding Ebola and other international health threats. The thermal scanners will form part of enhanced passenger screening procedures designed to improve monitoring of incoming travellers.
Port health operations are also being reinforced ahead of the launch of additional international flights from Nigeria, scheduled to begin later this month.
The Ministry of Health emphasised that the measures are precautionary in nature. Antigua and Barbuda currently has no confirmed or suspected Ebola cases.
