Health authorities in Antigua and Barbuda are closely monitoring Ebola outbreaks currently affecting parts of Central and East Africa, while reassuring the public that no suspected cases have been identified locally.
According to Antigua.news, Health Minister Michael Joseph made the disclosure during a press conference on Friday, confirming that the ministry has already moved to intensify national preparedness and surveillance measures in response to alerts issued by the World Health Organization.
Officials confirmed that existing Ebola preparedness protocols are under review and are being updated. The revisions cover a broad range of procedures, including surveillance, infection prevention, case management, and the safe handling of human remains.
The ministry also indicated that preparations are underway to ensure the country's infectious disease facilities remain equipped and ready should isolation or specialized medical care become necessary.
Authorities are urging residents to maintain good hygiene practices and to seek prompt medical attention if they develop a fever or feel unwell following international travel.
