The Ministry of Health has intensified mosquito control operations across Antigua and Barbuda following the confirmation of two imported malaria cases, one of which has resulted in a death.

Health Minister Michael Joseph announced that the Ministry, acting through the Central Board of Health, has launched expanded vector surveillance and mosquito reduction measures in direct response to the cases.

Operations include environmental inspections, larviciding, targeted fogging, source reduction exercises, and ongoing monitoring of mosquito populations.

The Ministry is urging residents to take preventative action by removing standing water from around homes and workplaces and ensuring that all water storage containers are properly covered.

Authorities stress that there is currently no evidence of local malaria transmission.
