A young man is receiving treatment for severe burn injuries following a jet ski explosion off Hawksbill Beach on Friday afternoon, according to Antigua.news.
Eyewitnesses reported that the incident occurred offshore when the jet ski, operated by the injured man, suddenly caught fire and exploded. Beachgoers described hearing a loud bang before flames engulfed the watercraft and its rider.
Several people on the beach rushed to contact emergency services, while others attempted to assist from the shoreline as the situation unfolded.
The cause of the explosion remains unclear at this stage. Authorities have not confirmed whether a mechanical fault, fuel ignition, or another technical issue was responsible.
The injured man was pulled from the water and transported to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center, where he is being treated for what officials have described as serious burn injuries. His current condition has not been disclosed.
